I have been substituting in the district we live in. To say the job is tough is an understatement. I knew the job was going to be a challenge, but I really had no idea what I was in for! I have been to almost a dozen different elementary schools and have only worked with Pre-K, Kinder, 1st, and 5th grade. I have met a lot of really nice and friendly people, and have also met some not so nice people. I have had days where I have left feeling so defeated, and days when I didn't want to leave. I have met the most defiant 6 year old in all of San Antonio (and maybe even the world).
The good news about all of this is that I have learned so much. Not only about the teaching profession, but about myself and what the future might bring. I have been in a few ESL (English as a Second Language) classrooms, and am starting to research the possibility of becoming ESL certified. During my research, I have found that I could take the ESL Supplemental test in order to get certified without having to go back to school. I have also read that some school districts will pay for their teachers to get ESL certified, but that's not guaranteed. I also think if I do get this certification before next fall, I will look more desirable as a candidate. I have been thinking about it a lot lately, and will post my decision when I figure it out.
We'll see what happens! I'm so excited it's Friday and I get a four day weekend!
