School is a weird place. It's a place where you are made to worry about things that are beyond your control. One of the things being shoved on our plate is the absences of our students. Apparently, it costs a lot of money to have students absent. What are we supposed to do about this? I don't know, but each grade level team has been "encouraged" to come up with some kind of plan to prevent absences. The second grade team has come up with N.B.A., Never Been Absent. Each teacher has decorated her door in a basketball theme. I made a basketball court and printed my kid's pictures on basketballs. When they are absent or tardy, I take their basketball down in a dramatic fashion. Has it helped? Not really. But whatever.
