Here's the 411

First, it has been a long time since I have updated! Second, now there is so much to update about! I'll break everything up into sections.

New Teacher Academy
I attended three days of New Teacher Academy last week, August 3rd through the 5th. The first day we met at our home campus and our Principal and Vice Principal took us for breakfast. We then talked about the goals and objectives for this year and then took a brief tour around campus. We then went to the main high school where the rest of the Academy took place. There was a welcome lunch for us on Tuesday. We then had a Special Education Overview class. Wednesday, we had a speaker in the morning and then I had the "A Day in the Life of a Third Grade Teacher" class. We went over Social Studies and Science. Thursday our Superintendent talked with us in the morning and I had Day 2 of "A Day in the Life of a Third Grade Teacher" class and we discussed Math, Reading, and Writing. I met the other new teachers at my school and we have formed a little unit. I am very excited to be working with them.

Workshops/Training
Friday morning I had a "Setting Up Your Classroom for Success" class. It was a very informative session and we did a lot of make and takes that I hope to incorporate into my class. Today (Monday) morning I had training until noon. The session was great and the presenter was hilarious! She really made the early four hour training session on a Monday awesome.

Classroom
Today (Monday) after training and going home and having lunch with Will, we got all of my teacher stuff out of the house and went to school to move into my classroom. I get to the office to get the keys and I am told that the Principal wants to see me. I have to wait for a minute, which makes me nervous, and then I get into the conference room with the Principal and the Vice Principal. Then they tell me I need to sit down. The Principal tells me, "The good news is you're staying here and still have a job." And then my heart starts beating faster and I am not sure about what the bad news is. Then she says, "The bad news is you'll be teaching Kindergarten." Crap. Then the Vice Principal says, "no, second grade. You'll be in second grade." Which is way better than Kindergarten any day. So I didn't have enough third graders in my class and it was either get rid of one Teacher (me) or close the class and move a Teacher to Kindergarten (almost me). A Second grade teacher wanted to move to Kindergarten so now I am moving to Second grade. The Principal and Vice Principal really want to keep me and had my class closed before school started and I had to move to another campus. So now I'm a Second grade Teacher. Hopefully tomorrow Will and I will actually be able to start unpacking my room and start getting it ready.

Tyler & Dan & Clovis
Tyler and Dan will be coming here tomorrow and Will and I will be leaving for Clovis on Wednesday. We haven't been to Clovis since Thanksgiving and it will be nice to see everyone again and to get out of hot San Antonio. It will also be extremely nice to go on a trip and not have to pay to board the cats!

Conclusion
Here are the key points of this post:

I am now a Second grade Teacher after I took all of those Third grade curriculum classes

Hope you're doing well!
