As most of you have heard, I was asked about doing a long term job a few months ago. Throughout December and January, I was in the classroom observing the teaching, the students, and the daily routines. The job was planned to begin January 26th. The teacher was having a baby and the scheduled C-Section was on Monday the 26th. Thursday the 22nd, the teacher had a doctor's appointment and she was joking about not coming in the next day. After school I went home and started working out, and then I got a call from the teacher saying she was being admitted into the hospital and she was going to have her baby Friday afternoon! This meant I was going to be on my own that Friday. I have survived my first two weeks and the first week was extremely stressful. Now I've calmed down and am trying to take the job one day at a time so I don't get overwhelmed. Overwhelmed? Third grade reading TAKS is less than a month away and the math TAKS is the week after the job ends. The reading specialists are very concerned there is no guided reading and want me to completely change our reading curriculum and have yet to show me how they want me to do guided reading, so I haven't done it. And then I'm trying to be as positive as I possibly can and do my best so I can get an actual teacher position in the Fall. It's crazy! The kids are great, on Thursday we had Career Day and Will was one of the speakers. He did a really good job and the kids liked him. Two weeks down, ten more to go!
Hope you're doing well!
